Beach days

The weather this summer has been...oh, how can I put it???  Unpredictable!!  It has rained quite a lot and when the days are sunny, sometimes it is still quite cold.  Having said that, as soon as a nice sunny and warm day comes along, we make the best of the opportunity and head to the beach.  I love that our cottage can be reached in about an hour and that we also live only 20 minutes from some of the nicest beaches in the Atlantic provinces.
Cottage beach....all to myself!!

Enjoying some tunes

Dave and I were at the cottage last weekend for a long weekend but the weather was quite awful.  We had friends down on Saturday for the day and we did manage a nice walk on the beach after supper but it was pretty chilly.  The nicest part of the weekend was Sunday morning and we spent that in meeting and then at dinner with Dave's parents.  Just as we were ready to be able to enjoy the sun....it clouded over : - (
A cold outing but we had some fun anyway
This week, we have had two stellar beach days so Heath and I headed to L'Aboiteau in Shediac with friends.

Nolan's first beach day...what is this stuff??

Not sure if he grooved out on the chilly water
.

Here's hoping that next week will bring some gorgeous beach days as Heather is on vacation and we could beach it every day...if we wanted to!

Memories....

Mom and Dad had a big yard sale last weekend.  Mom asked me to go through all of the stuff to see if there was anything that I wanted to keep.  She had kept so many toys from when we were younger but neither Heath or I are big on keeping stuff.  We are both serious purgers : - )

I did take some pics of some of the items so I could keep the memories that way.  I couldn't believe how good of a condition some of them were in.

Pink ceramic ballet slippers that hung on the wall of my teenaged bedroom

A doll from my childhood (in mint condition)

I think this was a gift from someone when I was born???

Three men in a tub...missing the candlestick maker?? : - )
Warm memories of a wonderful childhood!!  Photos don't take up much space and can be hauled out at any time with very little effort....

Happy Canada Day! The recap....

Brian & Michelle hosted a Canada Day celebration.  We started the day at the Hall playing soccer/baseball in the field until we got rained out.  We didn't let that stop our fun so we moved inside to play more games in the big Fellowship room.  It is so fantastic to have the facilities and room to do these types of things and not have to get there early to get a field or rent a place to play indoors.

Young and old had a great time and we followed up the games with a BBQ.  Tons of good food and desserts to inhale.  I ran so much that my body severely protested when I got up the next morning...and the following morning was even worse because we had been to the cottage to stain the decks and spent many hours bent over like an old person trying to paint between the floor boards.

All in all, it was a great holiday weekend with the best of things we enjoy....family and friends!!

Michelle's T-shirt said it best!

We needed something to be able to tell one team from another.....

Home office exposé

When we moved into our current home 11 years ago, we dumped the office furniture into a room upstairs and figured that we would deal with our home office later.  Well, our 'temporary' home office has sat in its current condition for just about 11 years with no changes!!  About six years ago, I had bought a huge (used) workstation/desk with plans to refinish one of the basement rooms and put the monster of a desk in there.  That hasn't happened so the desk has sat in our garage for years taking up tons of space.  I was going to just give it away to get rid of it but then I had an epiphany and thought that my Dad could help cut it down to size so it would fit into our office upstairs.  I should have taken a 'before' picture but didn't think of it.  I have worked this week with Dad to get it cut to fit into our office space and then I painted it with black melamine paint as it was an outdated gray speckled laminate.  It is looking quite awesome and I just need to repaint the desk top and it will be ready to go.

However, as with many projects, a 'new' desk means we really should take the opportunity to paint the walls...and the linoleum floor is old and ripped in spots so we should probably put down hardwood...and so it goes.  My little desk project has now become a complete redecorating of the office.

So while we pull all of the rest of the elements together, the desk sits in our garage waiting for its new home.

Graduations galore

There were lots of high school graduations going on this past week.  We had five girls from the Hall that graduated...sigh.  Time flies by so quickly!  I remember most of them when they were little.   One of the graduates was Aleshya who was in my Sunday School class when she was five years old.  In the area that she comes from, there aren't a whole lot of people who graduate from high school so this was a monumental event and I was so proud that she stuck it out and finished school.  She invited me to her graduation because she considers herself one of my adopted nieces and I was so happy to go : - )

We also held a Grad Banquet at the Hall.  One of the girls couldn't make it but there were four girls that we celebrated with.

My niece, Karissa, was one of the graduates.  It is hard to believe that I once held her as a little baby and now she is just an amazing young woman.  If you can't tell, I am one proud 'auntie'!!
