If you've been reading my blog for awhile, you know that I have been very frustrated with my little point-and-shoot camera. I love Canon Powershots but I think I burned the sensor taking a picture that had too much direct sun and have felt like I was missing an appendage as I had to tweak the settings constantly to get half decent photos.
Well, after well over two years of waiting and saving my pennies, I finally have upgraded to a DSLR camera. I love taking pictures and since Heath and I have been getting requests to shoot family pics, etc., I knew that in order to get good quality photos, I needed a much better camera than my little point and-shoot.
I have been researching and price checking for a long time and found a great deal at Costco on a Nikon D5000 with two lenses (one regular, one telephoto) so it was time to bite the bullet and spend the money to upgrade. I didn't think that I would use the telephoto much but I am finding that I am using it way more than the basic kit lense. It produces such great clarity and detail in the pictures. It was worth the wait...and I definitely appreciate it more because I had to wait so long.
We are heading to Florida to visit Mom and Dad at the end of the month and I have been reading up on DSLR photography (apertures, shutter speeds and on and on....) so that I can have a better handle on what the camera can do so I can get much better pictures of a beautiful spot! I have to say that it is quite intimidating looking at all of the buttons and options so I have to keep reminding myself that to eat an elephant, you must do so one bite at a time : - )
I also have to get a new point-and-shoot as I am not necessarily always going to carry this camera to the beach (or other places it could get damaged) and sometimes I just will want to be able to tuck it into my back pocket and go.
Hello, my name is Angie and I am a camera-holic!!
